Job Summary:

As a key member of the AmSpec Group team, the Sample Handling Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory. This position is responsible for all activities involving sample handling, including receiving, tracking, storage, and disposal.

Key Responsibilities:

The Sample Handling Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Logging in, tracking, correctly storing, and disposing of all samples in accordance with industry standards and company procedures.
  • Familiarity with American Petroleum Institute (API) procedures and documents as they relate to samples, as well as EPA regulations governing samples, particularly as they relate to disposal and maintenance of disposal records.
  • Carrying out assigned tasks in accordance with the latest industry standards and practices, as well as specific instructions given by the Laboratory manager and/or supervisor.
  • Preparing all reports pertaining to samples, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintaining the retain and storage area in a clean, organized, and safe manner at all times.
  • Attending monthly safety meetings to stay informed and up-to-date on company policies and procedures.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, the Sample Handling Specialist should possess:

  • A high school diploma and related experience in the industry, preferably.
  • The ability to read, write, and clearly communicate in English.
  • Effective presentation skills, with the ability to interact with office and laboratory personnel in a professional and business-like manner.
  • Familiarity with basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

Working Conditions:

The Sample Handling Specialist may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. AmSpec Group provides product information, training, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of those materials. Employees are required to read product information, use available engineering controls, follow guidelines presented during training, and be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, including respiratory protective equipment, as may be required by the work environment.

Physical Requirements:

The Sample Handling Specialist must be able to:

  • Pass a drug and alcohol test specified by AmSpec Group.
  • Pass an annual Pulmonary Fitness and Respirator Fit Test.
  • Pass a physical examination by a physician designated by AmSpec Group Services, both before employment and at any time during employment upon request of AmSpec Group Services to confirm the Surveyor's ability to perform the essential job functions of the position.
  • Stand for extended periods and lift/carry boxes weighing up to 45lbs.
  • Work in the presence of odors, typical of petroleum or petrochemicals, without allergic reactions or nausea when such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).
