Position Overview:

The Crisis Intervention Specialist is responsible for managing incoming calls to Safe Horizon's 24-hour support lines, which include the Domestic Violence Hotline, the Crime Victims Hotline, and the Rape and Incest Hotline. These vital services offer immediate crisis support, advocacy, and essential information to over 125,000 individuals annually. The Specialist will perform comprehensive safety evaluations and collaborate with callers to formulate tailored plans that address their needs within a compassionate, client-focused framework.

Key Responsibilities:

Embrace and apply a trauma-informed, client-centered methodology, utilizing an anti-oppressive perspective in interactions with clients. Communicate with clients reaching out through the Domestic Violence, Crime Victims, and Rape and Sexual Assault Hotlines via phone and TDD technology for the hearing impaired. Execute thorough assessments for all callers, prioritizing the safety of clients and their dependents. Recognize and follow up on indicators that may suggest potential safety risks for clients and their families. Provide crisis intervention when necessary to mitigate threats to a caller's physical and emotional well-being, coordinating with supervisors as required. Develop safety plans with callers identified as having safety concerns. In accordance with state regulations, report any suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities. Conduct evaluations for domestic violence and sexual assault victims seeking shelter and advocate for their access to available resources. Assess callers' needs and deliver suitable information and referrals to meet those needs. Utilize web-based case management systems and other technologies to document and manage interactions. Engage in agency-sponsored and external training sessions focused on victimization issues. Foster collaborative relationships with Safe Horizon programs and other service providers in the community. Carry out all responsibilities within a supportive, client-centered context. Participate in weekly clinical supervision meetings with your supervisor, employing a reflective, trauma-informed approach to evaluate your work. Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Background in or interest in consistent clinical supervision. Previous experience working with crime victims is preferred. A Bachelor's degree is required, or equivalent experience and training.

Essential Skills:

Ability to establish rapport quickly over the phone. Experience in conducting thorough assessments and demonstrated capability to do so via telephone. Proficient crisis intervention skills. Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple technologies simultaneously. Proven ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations. Demonstrated skill in assisting others to creatively solve problems and navigate challenges. Flexibility and creativity in responding to daily challenges. Capacity to work independently while effectively collaborating with colleagues in a dynamic environment. Clear and concise writing abilities. Proficiency in documenting work promptly within a digital case management system.

This position is remote and may require candidates to provide their own equipment and tools necessary for remote work, such as a computer, internet connection, and phone service. Safe Horizon will discuss potential solutions with candidates and may provide assistance where needed and agreed upon in advance.
