Position Summary:

We are in search of a highly qualified Tax Attorney to become a vital part of our client's legal department. The ideal candidate will advocate for clients in tax-related court cases, negotiate settlements with the IRS, and offer strategic advice on business transactions. This role demands an in-depth knowledge of tax legislation, outstanding negotiation capabilities, and the aptitude to keep abreast of legislative changes to inform clients about their implications on both business and personal finances.

Key Duties:

  • Court Advocacy:
    • Represent clients in judicial proceedings concerning tax disputes.
    • Manage tax litigation cases, including remote proceedings when necessary.
  • Settlement Negotiation:
    • Negotiate tax settlements with the IRS on behalf of clients.
    • Facilitate the structuring and negotiation of business entity documentation.
  • Business Transaction Guidance:
    • Advise on the structuring of business acquisitions and sales by analyzing financial obligations, assets, and liabilities.
  • Legislative Oversight:
    • Track legislative changes and counsel clients on potential impacts of new laws on their financial and business interests.
  • Legal Research:
    • Perform comprehensive legal research utilizing digital databases.
    • Remain informed through extensive reading on updates in tax law.
  • Documentation Preparation:
    • Draft and submit legal motions and court briefs.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law institution.
  • Active state bar membership in good standing.
  • Strong expertise in tax law with demonstrated experience in litigation and negotiation.
  • Exceptional research, writing, and analytical abilities.
  • Capacity to manage multiple cases and clients concurrently.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or accounting degree is advantageous.
  • Experience in negotiating and structuring business transactions.
  • Familiarity with current tax regulations and legislation.
  • LLM in Taxation is a plus.
