Requisition ID: R

At Northrop Grumman, our workforce enjoys remarkable opportunities to engage in groundbreaking systems that influence lives globally today and for future generations. Our innovative and creative spirit has positioned us at the forefront of numerous technological milestones in our nation's history - from the first transatlantic flight to stealth bombers and lunar landings. We seek individuals with bold ideas, courage, and a pioneering mindset to collaborate in shaping the future while enjoying the journey. Our culture fosters intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity, and encourages employees to bring their authentic selves to work — driven by an unyielding ambition to achieve what others deem impossible. Our team members are not just part of history; they are actively creating it.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for candidates to lead a team of engineers within the BWI campus area, supporting various divisions: Airborne Multifunction Sensors (AMS), Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD), Maritime & Land Sensors and Systems (MLSS), and Networked Information Systems (NIS).

The ideal candidate will become part of our high-performing Systems Engineering team, developing Radar, EW, and EO/IR systems for some of the most advanced technologies in the U.S. arsenal. This includes radars and sensors for various aircraft and UAV systems, as well as developmental initiatives.

The selected individual will exhibit strong leadership capabilities and possess a proven track record as a motivated leader, effective communicator, and problem solver, adept at fostering and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. A commitment to ethics and integrity, alongside the ability to innovate while challenging conventional practices, is essential. Demonstrated skills in building diverse and inclusive teams with high engagement levels, including mentoring and coaching, are crucial. The candidate must thrive in a collaborative environment and work across different business areas to achieve team and departmental objectives.

This role encompasses dual responsibilities, balancing overall functional oversight and management of a Systems Engineering group while also contributing to technical program work. The candidate will allocate approximately 20% of their time to organizational support and 80% to technical program tasks. Management responsibilities include organizational administrative activities and supporting employee performance and career development through guidance and training. Technical contributions may involve systems engineering tasks, conducting design reviews, leading Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), consulting, proposal support, or other relevant technical functions.

Key management responsibilities include:

• Talent acquisition and retention

• Employee training

• Career guidance and goal-setting

• Performance assessments

• Compensation evaluations and coordination

• Policy communication

• Employee inclusion and engagement

• Staffing, workload planning/forecasting, and time charge approvals

• Engineering process development and maintenance

• Formulation and execution of departmental vision and strategies

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a closely related technical field, such as computer science or physics, with 9 years of experience (or a Master of Science degree with 7 years of experience) in systems or electrical engineering, and/or engineering program/project management.

• Proven ability to lead and inspire diverse and inclusive teams in a significant leadership capacity.

• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

• Comprehensive understanding of the Systems Engineering process.

• Active Department of Defense (DOD) Secret clearance.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in developing advanced sensor systems, such as EOIR payloads, Fighter and/or Surveillance Radar systems, Electronic Warfare (EW), or Mission Systems.

• Advanced degree in engineering.

• Eligibility for Top Secret, SAP, and/or SCI access.

• 3+ years of experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity.
