Patient Access Coordinator

About the Role
Halifax Health is seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for performing duties associated with Scheduling, Pre-registration, Registration, Insurance Verification, and Financial Counseling.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule patients for hospital services, ensuring accuracy and completeness of details.
- Pre-register scheduled accounts, communicating with patients, physicians, and other departments as needed.
- Collect and analyze demographic, insurance, financial, and clinical data, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness.
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorizations, and coordinate admission reservations and bed placement with nursing.
- Provide excellent customer service, interacting with patients, families, and colleagues in a compassionate and customer-focused manner.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as CEA staff, Social Workers, and referring physician offices, to ensure seamless patient care.
- Stay up-to-date with regulatory requirements, such as EMTALA, HIPAA, and payer regulations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Two years of related work experience preferred, preferably in healthcare or customer service environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, computer programs, and office equipment.
- Organizational and time management skills, with ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently.
