Entry-Level Building Science Technician

We are currently seeking a Building Science Technician to become part of our Building Science Solutions team. Our Building and Construction division encompasses a range of Intertek brands that are leaders in various architecture, engineering, and construction fields, delivering innovative product and project solutions. Intertek's project-related assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting services serve as the essential risk management and quality assurance partner to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of new developments, existing assets, and facilities. The Building Science Solutions (BSS) group focuses on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for both new construction and retrofit projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety protocols and company policies.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Oversee all assigned projects through our management system (including proposals, job progress, notifications, invoicing, documentation of test data, reporting, and job closure).
  • Thoroughly review contract requirements and document any deviations with proper authorization.
  • Coordinate testing and inspection schedules with equipment availability and other departmental testing.
  • Verify the calibration status of testing equipment prior to use and familiarize yourself with relevant standards.
  • Analyze test outcomes and produce accurate, concise reports summarizing procedures and results.
  • Engage with clients regarding test preparations, procedures, and outcomes.
  • Assist the administrative team with invoicing for all assigned projects.
  • Learn and understand testing standards and procedures (e.g., AAMA, ASTM, NFPA, etc.).
  • Maintain tools and equipment, manage inventory supplies, and ensure cleanliness of the work area.
  • Support the sales and marketing of testing services to prospective clients.
This position outline serves as a general guideline and does not encompass all details. It is expected that the incumbent possesses both the mental and physical capabilities to fulfill the outlined duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years of experience in construction, glazing, roofing, or a similar general construction background.
  • Technical competence to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results, along with a mechanical aptitude.
  • Familiarity with Quality Assurance policies and procedures related to the control, storage, and disposition of test specimens.
  • General construction or carpentry knowledge and experience with power tools.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as sitting, standing, crouching, bending, climbing, crawling, pushing, pulling, and lifting at least 50 pounds as required.
  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Word and Excel; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel outside the local area based on workload and project locations.
  • A valid driver's license and a reliable driving record are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A degree in a technical field is desired, or equivalent related experience is preferred.
