Position Overview: The role involves performing paraprofessional tasks related to the assessment and reassessment of eligibility for individuals seeking financial, medical, food assistance, or shelter through the Department of Social Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and conduct routine to moderately complex administrative and case management services to determine client eligibility for various programs.
  • Manage client intake and re-enrollment processes while coordinating administrative aspects of assigned programs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations; assist in training department staff on policy matters.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from clients regarding department services and application processes.
  • Schedule and conduct interviews to assess program applicants' eligibility based on employment and income information.
  • Process referrals promptly and assist external agencies with client eligibility determinations.
  • Screen clients for issues related to substance abuse, emotional health, and domestic violence, providing necessary referrals.
  • Conduct investigations for child support cases, preparing legal documents and determining levels of cooperation.
  • Evaluate clients transitioning from WorkFirst to Medicaid programs, completing necessary documentation.
  • Maintain accurate client and program records, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and monitor mutual responsibility agreements for clients, tracking compliance with assigned activities.
  • Assess requests for hardship exemptions, documenting results and setting hearing dates as necessary.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution between clients and caseworkers as needed.
  • Prepare various reports and records required by the County and other agencies.
  • Coordinate activities with other divisions and departments as appropriate.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties to support department functions, including data entry and document management.
  • Act as a supervisor in the absence of the designated leader.
  • Utilize various office equipment and technology to perform daily tasks efficiently.
  • Engage with various stakeholders, including supervisors, co-workers, and clients, to ensure effective communication.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Assist with special projects related to community support and resource coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker, or an Associate's Degree in a related field with three years of experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
