DESCRIPTION
As a vital member of the Social Services team, the Income Maintenance Caseworker III plays a crucial role in evaluating and reassessing the eligibility of individuals seeking financial, medical, food assistance, or shelter support. This position involves providing guidance and executing moderately complex administrative and case management functions related to client eligibility for various programs. The role is performed under general supervision, with performance evaluated based on knowledge, compliance with legal standards, and demonstrated competencies.
DUTIES
- Conducts specialized administrative and case management tasks to support Social Services operations.
- Offers training and leadership to junior Income Maintenance Caseworkers as required.
- Ensures adherence to relevant policies, procedures, and regulations, providing necessary training to staff.
- Handles inquiries and requests from clients regarding program services and application processes.
- Schedules and conducts interviews to assess program applicants' eligibility based on income and employment data; verifies Medicaid eligibility.
- Processes referrals promptly and assists external agencies with eligibility determinations.
- Evaluates clients for substance abuse and emotional health issues, providing appropriate referrals to health and social services.
- Conducts investigations for child support cases, completing necessary documentation and calculations.
- Maintains comprehensive and accurate client records, ensuring data integrity.
- Develops and monitors mutual responsibility agreements for clients, tracking compliance with requirements.
- Evaluates requests for hardship exemptions and sets up hearings as needed.
- Resolves conflicts between clients and caseworkers effectively.
- Prepares various reports and records for county and agency requirements.
- Coordinates activities with other divisions and agencies as necessary.
- Performs clerical and administrative duties to support departmental functions.
- May assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.
- Utilizes various office equipment and technology in daily operations.
- Engages with diverse groups, including clients, colleagues, and external agencies.
- Participates in training and professional development opportunities.
- May assist with special projects related to community support and resource distribution.
- Completes case management duties for colleagues as needed.
- Performs additional related responsibilities as required.
- In-depth understanding of the Department's methods, policies, and procedures.
- Strong interviewing skills and ability to build rapport with clients.
- Familiarity with processes for determining eligibility for social services.
- Proficient in administrative, organizational, and customer service tasks.
- Knowledgeable in modern office practices and equipment.
- Competent in English usage, mathematics, and regulatory compliance.
- Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulations and procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an Associate's Degree in a related field with three years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Valid North Carolina Driver's License.
