Core Responsibilities:

The role involves collaborating within a dedicated teaching team to nurture and guide the growth of young children aged 6 weeks to 12 years in a well-structured early learning setting.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  2. Extensive and relevant post-secondary education or training in early childhood education or related fields is essential.
  3. A minimum of two years of experience working with young children and their families is required, with licensed childcare experience being advantageous.
  4. Familiarity with Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, and Ages and Stages Questionnaire is preferred.
  5. Must comply with the Bureau of Child and Adult Licensing requirements.
  6. Active CDA certification is required and must be maintained.
  7. Must pass criminal and child abuse background checks.
  8. Ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds is crucial.

Key Duties:

  1. Design and execute age-appropriate educational activities and experiences for both individual children and groups, adhering to the approved curriculum.
  2. Utilize Teaching Strategies GOLD and ASQ-3/ASQ-SE for observation and assessment.
  3. Oversee children's activities to ensure their safety while fostering social interaction and enjoyment.
  4. Assist children with daily routines, including toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, and meals.
  5. Collaborate with the Assistant Site Director to address programmatic or family-related concerns.
  6. Support the preparation of activity materials and maintain cleanliness in the learning environment.
  7. Engage with children during mealtimes to promote healthy eating habits and good manners.
  8. Accompany and supervise children during field trips.
  9. Commit to ongoing education on anti-bias education, racial justice, and gender equity.
  10. Monitor children's health for any signs of illness or concern.
  11. Maintain cleanliness after activities.
  12. Communicate with parents regarding their child's daily activities, progress, and behavior.
  13. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Children's Center and YWCA.
  14. Participate in required training and coaching sessions.
  15. Provide classroom coverage during administrative days or instructor absences.
  16. Comply with local, state, and federal licensing requirements.
  17. Report any suspected child abuse as per association policy.
  18. Safeguard confidential information obtained through the role.
  19. Work collaboratively with program participants, YWCA staff, and volunteers.
  20. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  1. Work may occur at various locations, including off-site and outdoor events.
  2. Physical demands include sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, and lifting.
  3. Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  4. Occasional need for hand and finger dexterity.
  5. May involve climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crawling.
  6. Frequent communication is necessary.
  7. Occasional exposure to wet conditions and moving mechanical parts.
  8. Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate to loud.
  9. Must be able to lift and/or move more than 60 pounds occasionally.
  10. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
  11. Engage in activities that encourage family participation in the program.

Training Requirements:

  1. Orientation to YWCA policies and mission.
  2. Training on racial justice and inclusivity.
  3. Pronoun and confidentiality training.
  4. Compliance with state child care licensing training.
  5. A minimum of 20 hours of professional development annually.
  6. Additional training will be provided as necessary during employment.
