Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Educator to join our team at YWCA Kalamazoo. As a key member of our early childhood education team, you will play a vital role in supporting the care and development of young children ages 6 weeks to under 3 years in a structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Curriculum Implementation: Organize and implement age-appropriate learning activities and experiences with individual children and small and large groups within the approved curriculum.
  2. Assessment and Observation: Observe and assess children's development using Teaching Strategies GOLD and ASQ-3/ASQ-SE.
  3. Communication and Collaboration: Work cooperatively with the assistant site director to resolve programmatic or family concerns, and participate in mealtime activities with children to encourage good eating habits and socialization.
  4. Child Safety and Well-being: Supervise children's activities to ensure safety, and report any health concerns or incidents to parents and the assistant director.
  5. Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development, including training on anti-bias education, racial justice, and gender equity issues.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; significant post-high school education or training in early childhood education or child/family-related fields, or Associate's/Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or Elementary Education.
  2. Qualifications: CDA in infants/toddlers required; two years of classroom experience, post CDA certification; two years of experience working with young children within a licensed childcare facility.
  3. Skills and Abilities: Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain positive working relationships with team members and parents.
Working Conditions and Essential Functions
  1. Physical Demands: Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  2. Environmental Factors: Continually required to talk or hear; occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and extreme heat or cold.
Training Requirements
  1. YWCA Orientation: Orientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose, and One Imperative.
  2. Racial Justice Training: Racial Justice Training.
  3. Child Care Licensing Training: All required state of Michigan Child Care Licensing training requirements.
  4. Ongoing Professional Development: Minimum 24 hours of ongoing professional development per year.
