Position Overview
This role is situated within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), specifically within the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sector, focusing on Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and the ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC).

Role Summary
The incumbent will function under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Lead Pharmacist in a non-supervisory capacity. This position is exclusively available to current USPHS officers and candidates eligible for Call to Active Duty (CAD).

Eligibility Criteria
This opportunity is open to U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or individuals who owe allegiance to the United States. Applicants must be current USPHS Commissioned Corps Officers or USPHS CAD candidates; civilian applicants are not eligible.

Key Responsibilities
The primary duties include:

  • Reviewing and verifying individual prescriptions, ensuring accuracy in drug name, strength, and dosage.
  • Adjusting prescription instructions and quantities based on available stock at the medical facility.
  • Creating precise labels that effectively communicate provider instructions to patients.
  • Dispensing medications by selecting the correct stock, measuring appropriate quantities, and applying labels.
  • Providing patient counseling on medication usage, utilizing available resources in the patient's preferred language when possible.
  • Assessing the availability of prescribed drugs and suggesting alternatives when necessary.
  • Responding to inquiries from healthcare professionals regarding drug availability and interactions.

Additional Duties
Optional responsibilities may include practicing as a clinical pharmacist, contingent upon the approval of a collaborative practice agreement. The role also involves:

  • Packaging bulk medications into specified quantities.
  • Operating equipment for repackaging and labeling medications.
  • Maintaining accurate records of prepacking information.
  • Managing inventory and ensuring the proper rotation of stock.
  • Conducting inspections of pharmaceutical supplies and reporting discrepancies.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess a B.S. or Pharm. D. degree from an accredited program and hold a valid pharmacy license. Expertise in pharmacology and related management practices is essential.
