Job Summary

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Administrative Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and patient-centered environment, providing pharmaceutical care to patients and contributing to the development of innovative pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Provide leadership and guidance to pharmacy staff, promoting a positive work environment and fostering a culture of excellence.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, patient safety, and quality of care.
  • Pharmaceutical Care
    • Provide and coordinate pharmaceutical care to patients, including medication use evaluations, drug policy development, and quality management activities.
    • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely delivery of medications to patient care areas.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Coordinate department reporting and statistical analysis, identifying areas for improvement and implementing quality assurance processes.
    • Participate in hospital and departmental quality management activities, contributing to the development of innovative solutions to improve patient care.
  • Finance and Budgeting
    • Participate in the development of the department's annual budget, identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing strategies to optimize resource utilization.
    • Manage inventory and supplies, minimizing waste and expired medications.
  • Growth and Innovation
    • Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of new pharmacy programs and services, addressing safety, finance, and operational initiatives.
    • Contribute to intra-departmental, interdepartmental activities, and professional publications, presenting at local, state, and national meetings.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).
    • Advanced degree (i.e., master's degree or Pharm.D) preferred.
  • Experience
    • Must have one of the following:
    • Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited post-graduate year one (PGY1) and year two (PGY2) residency training programs or equivalent professional experience.
    • Six years of pharmacist experience applicable to the specific work setting.
  • Certifications and Licenses
    • PHRM - Pharmacist - State Licensure.
    • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).
    • PPC- Pharmacist Preceptor Cert - State Licensure.
    • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation (if applicable to primary work assignment).
    • IV Certification - Intravenous certification (ACPE) (if applicable to primary work assignment).
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills with all levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
