Position Overview
At Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role is a licensed nursing professional who operates at an advanced level of clinical practice. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to a diverse array of patients, performing comprehensive nursing evaluations, assisting with medical examinations and treatments, providing patient education, and ensuring accurate maintenance of health records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Deliver direct nursing care efficiently and effectively, addressing the needs of patients with complex health conditions. Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure high-quality, compassionate care and optimal treatment outcomes.
  • Communication: Utilize therapeutic communication techniques to build rapport with patients, families, and the healthcare team, fostering a collaborative approach to care planning.
  • Education and Mentorship: Implement educational initiatives tailored to specific patient populations and unit protocols. Mentor and coach nursing staff and students, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
Service Excellence
  • Adhere to patient and family-centered care principles, conducting thorough assessments and maintaining comprehensive medical records. Embrace cultural diversity and inclusion in all practices.
  • Develop and communicate individualized care plans in partnership with patients and their families, prioritizing care based on patient needs and preferences.
  • Provide effective patient education, adapting teaching methods to ensure understanding and retention of information.
Quality and Safety
  • Follow established standards of care and regulatory requirements, identifying opportunities for practice improvement through evidence-based approaches.
  • Coordinate care for complex patients, utilizing clinical judgment and documentation to support safe and effective care delivery.
  • Engage in initiatives to enhance quality and safety metrics within the unit.
Professional Development
  • Demonstrate self-motivation in managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks. Contribute to the unit's operational budget and resource utilization.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation in patient care and unit operations, presenting evidence-based solutions to leadership.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of nursing experience in a clinical setting.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid RN license in Texas or compact state, BLS certification, and other relevant credentials as required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in nursing skills and competencies, with strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in clinical situations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time management and the use of technology in healthcare.
