Position Overview

The Financial Analyst II plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity of one or more business units within AFL. This position involves a comprehensive understanding of financial processes and the ability to communicate insights effectively to management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Closing Process Management: Oversee the precise closing activities for designated business units, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Financial Communication: Clearly articulate financial outcomes to the management team, including detailed explanations of variances against planned or historical results.
  • Business Acumen: Maintain a robust understanding of the business landscape, adeptly explaining shifts related to volume and contribution margins.
  • Revenue and Margin Analysis: Conduct in-depth evaluations of revenues and margins by customer, product category, and project.
  • Spending Variance Analysis: Analyze departmental spending variations and provide insights for cost reduction initiatives.
  • Cost Management: Ensure accurate standard costs are maintained, adhering to absorption and lower of cost testing requirements.
  • Inventory Reconciliation: Perform annual physical inventory and fixed asset reconciliations, in line with corporate guidelines.
  • Cycle Counting Assistance: Support quarterly cycle counting and inventory sampling efforts to enhance inventory accuracy.
  • Control Environment Improvement: Collaborate with the Finance Director to enhance the control environment through self-assessment of key controls.
  • Audit Preparation: Assist in audit readiness, ensuring timely responses to audit inquiries and minimizing adjustments related to findings.
  • Forecasting: Provide monthly and semi-annual forecasts, elucidating variances to business leaders.

Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of experience in an analytical capacity within manufacturing or service sectors.
  • CPA or MBA credentials are advantageous.
  • Proficient understanding of the financial closing process, inventory costing, cash management, and general ledger operations.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities and forecasting proficiency.
  • Commitment to process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Great Plains) and ability to extract data from various platforms.

Working Conditions
  • Fast-paced, high-visibility role within a typical office environment, with occasional travel required.

Business Requirements

This position necessitates experience in job cost accounting and percentage of completion revenue recognition.
