Position Overview

The Financial Analyst II plays a crucial role in managing the financial operations of AFL. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the closing process for various business units, as well as effectively communicating financial outcomes to the management team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the precise closing process for assigned business units.
  • Clearly articulate financial results to management, including variance explanations against plans or historical data.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the business landscape, articulating changes related to volume and contribution margin.
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of revenues and margins segmented by customer, product category, and project.
  • Analyze spending variations by department and account to identify trends and discrepancies.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives through detailed financial analysis.
  • Maintain accurate standard costs that comply with absorption and lower of cost testing requirements.
  • Calculate and analyze revenue using percentage of completion accounting where applicable.
  • Perform annual physical inventory and fixed asset reconciliations as required by corporate guidelines.
  • Assist in quarterly cycle counting and inventory sampling to enhance inventory accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director to strengthen the control environment through self-assessment of key controls.
  • Support audit preparation efforts to ensure timely responses to audit inquiries.
  • Provide monthly and semi-annual forecasts, explaining variances to business leaders.

Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of experience in an analytical capacity within manufacturing or service sectors.
  • CPA or MBA credentials are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the financial closing process, inventory costing, cash management, and general ledger operations.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Strong analytical and forecasting capabilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to process improvement.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Great Plains) and the ability to extract and analyze data from various platforms.

Working Conditions
  • This role operates in a fast-paced office environment with occasional travel requirements.

Business Requirements

Experience in job cost accounting and percentage of completion revenue recognition is essential.
