Position Overview

The Financial Analyst II plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the financial closing process for designated business units within AFL. This position requires clear communication of financial outcomes to the management team, including a thorough explanation of variances against planned or historical results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the financial closing process for assigned business units, ensuring precision and compliance.
  • Effectively communicate financial results to management, highlighting significant variances and their implications.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the business landscape to articulate changes related to volume and contribution margin.
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of revenues and margins segmented by customer, product category, and project.
  • Analyze departmental spending variations and provide insights to support cost reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate standard costs to comply with absorption and lower of cost testing standards.
  • Implement percentage of completion accounting for revenue calculation and analysis where applicable.
  • Conduct annual physical inventory and fixed asset reconciliations in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Assist in quarterly cycle counting and inventory sampling to enhance inventory accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director to strengthen the control environment through self-assessment of key controls.
  • Support audit preparation efforts, ensuring timely responses to audit inquiries.
  • Minimize required adjustments related to audit findings by maintaining robust financial practices.
  • Provide monthly and semi-annual forecasts, explaining variances to business leaders.

Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of experience in an analytical capacity within manufacturing or service sectors.
  • CPA or MBA credentials are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the financial closing process, inventory costing, cash management, and general ledger operations.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Access databases.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and forecasting capabilities.
  • Proven commitment to process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with relevant ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Great Plains) and the ability to extract data from various sources.

Working Environment
  • A dynamic and visible role within a typical office setting, with occasional travel requirements.

Business Requirements

This position necessitates experience in job cost accounting and percentage of completion revenue recognition.
