OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The primary function of the Asset Reliability Specialist (ARS) is to implement engineering methodologies to eliminate recurring failures in machinery and processes. The ARS will assess and manage asset reliability challenges that may negatively impact operational efficiency. The ARS participates in Early Management (EM) during the design and installation phases of capital projects for both new and existing assets. The ARS conducts and formulates various analytical techniques to evaluate the reliability of components, machinery, and operational processes. This role will also be integral in executing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Planned Maintenance (PM) initiatives.
The ARS gathers process and equipment data, analyzes this information, and prepares visual aids, calculations, and reports that identify reliability issues and suggest enhancements. The required reliability level for specific assets will take into account criticality rankings, economic constraints regarding equipment downtime, repair or replacement expenses, and the availability of necessary materials and equipment. The ARS is responsible for minimizing unplanned equipment failures and lowering the overall life cycle costs of the assets.
Reports to: Joplin Maintenance Leader.
Span of Control: The ARS is expected to collaborate with maintenance, operations, and technical teams promptly to achieve significant improvements within a workforce of approximately 150.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote Safety Standards
- Ensures a safe and environmentally compliant workplace where safety is the top priority.
- Advocates for sustainability and environmental stewardship.
- Leads and supports safety initiatives aimed at achieving zero incidents.
- Educates and trains employees to perform their tasks safely.
- Monitors safety metrics including RIR, first aids, near misses, and safety training.
Eliminate Unplanned Equipment Failures
- Collects and reviews fundamental reliability data from databases, field tests, and CMMS systems, correlating this data using established engineering practices.
- Assists in and eventually leads Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts.
- Identifies 'Bad Actors' and prioritizes findings to focus on the most critical opportunities.
- Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SME), Maintenance Leaders, and fellow Reliability Engineers to devise plans that enhance equipment and process designs.
Enhance Asset Life Cycle Costs
- Works with Capital Delivery to ensure a focus on reliability and maintainability for new and modified equipment installations.
- Provides training on PM Pillar and reliability concepts, tools, and methodologies.
- Defines, develops, monitors, and refines asset maintenance strategies.
- Partners with plant PM Pillar and maintenance teams to establish and improve the Preventative/Predictive Maintenance program.
- Implements best practices for Storeroom/MRO management.
Talent Development and Leadership
- Delivers training on reliability and precision maintenance.
- Offers feedback on performance expectations for PdM team members.
- In collaboration with the Maintenance Leader, builds an effective team to enhance plant performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Defines and implements appropriate reliability knowledge and skills for plant maintenance team members.
- Manages external resources on projects and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- 3-5 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, maintenance, or reliability.
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Operations, or Business is preferred.
- Strong familiarity with common CMMS systems, SAP is preferred.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
- Knowledge of condition-based monitoring technologies such as vibration analysis, thermography, and ultrasonic testing.
- Familiarity with reliability practices including Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Equipment Criticality Ranking (ECR), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMECA).
- Certification as a Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) is a plus.
- Experience in a unionized environment.
- Project Management experience.
