Position Overview

The Controls and Automation Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our manufacturing processes. This position requires a proactive individual who can effectively manage various essential functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tuning and Synchronization: Fine-tune and synchronize Siemens drive systems in web handling applications to enhance reliability and automation.
  • Documentation Development: Create comprehensive support documentation for all projects and improvements.
  • Electrical Drawings: Read, troubleshoot, and develop electrical schematics for machinery.
  • PLC Configuration: Configure PLC message instructions and network settings.
  • P&ID Development: Develop Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), control narratives, and testing protocols for both new and existing systems.
  • Programming: Design PLC programs and operator interfaces following TAMKO's Programming Standards, ensuring compliance with documentation requirements and security protocols.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Plant Systems and Reliability Group, manufacturing facilities, and other TAMKO departments to establish enterprise-wide standards for controls and drive systems.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and assist in training Instrumentation and Controls technicians.
  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with external contractors and consultants to specify equipment and system installations as needed.
  • Technology Adoption: Stay informed about new technologies related to controls and drives, leading the implementation of advancements when applicable.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with plant personnel, vendors, contractors, and peers.
  • Improvement Planning: Create detailed plans, cost estimates, and justifications for process improvements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 6 years of experience in Controls/Automation.
  • At least 2 years of industry experience with web-handling applications and controls/drives programming.
  • Advanced understanding of web handling production processes and manufacturing systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Siemens Simatic and Simotion drives, particularly S120s.
  • Familiarity with other drive systems such as Micromaster and Baldor 18h.
  • Experience in PLC logic development, primarily with Siemens 505 and Step 7 (S7) Series Systems.
  • Mechanical and electrical systems knowledge, along with schematic proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and SCADA systems.
  • Optimization skills for Siemens S120 drive systems and HMI development in System Platform are preferred.
Work Environment

This role involves both indoor and outdoor work conditions, with exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, and varying noise levels. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds and the ability to perform tasks requiring vision adjustments.
