Position Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join our Research and Development team. This role will primarily focus on microbiology and protein biochemistry projects, including quality control and discovery efforts. The successful candidate will be tasked with monitoring the bioburden of materials, specifically bacteria and fungi cultures, while executing various microbiological and biochemical experiments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Culture bacteria and fungi in specialized media to assess bioburden in diverse materials.
- Operate within a BSL2 microbiology laboratory, adhering strictly to safety protocols.
- Conduct biochemical and microbiological experiments as directed by project leaders.
- Maintain and decontaminate laboratory equipment.
- Oversee the inventory of laboratory chemicals and consumables, ensuring timely replenishment.
- Prepare solutions and cell culture media as required.
- Label and dispose of hazardous materials properly.
- Collaborate closely with team members to achieve project goals.
- Compile detailed reports for project meetings and group discussions.
- Maintain accurate records of all research activities, generating progress reports and presentations as needed.
- Communicate with external contract research organizations when necessary.
Qualifications:
- BSc/MSc in biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with a focus on bacterial cell biology and a minimum of 2 years of practical laboratory experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in good laboratory practices to ensure a smooth and safe workflow.
- Basic troubleshooting skills and a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Skills & Abilities:
Essential:
- Experience with microbial culture techniques, particularly with bacteria and fungi.
- Foundational knowledge of protein chemistry and biochemistry laboratory processes.
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with both specialists and non-specialists.
- Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent applications.
Desirable:
- Experience in a microbiology quality control laboratory.
- Familiarity with software such as GraphPad Prism, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, NCBI, RSCB.
- Knowledge of microbial strain maintenance and genetic manipulation techniques.
- Experience with protein expression systems and purification methods.
- Understanding of techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, and enzymatic assays.
- Familiarity with data analysis software or programming languages for data interpretation.
- Prior experience in managing laboratory inventory and ensuring efficient workflows.
- Experience using electronic laboratory notebooks.
