SUMMARY OF ROLE
The primary objective of the Veterinary Area Manager is to oversee, mentor, and enhance the performance of veterinary professionals within their designated facilities. This role is crucial in ensuring that Banfield attracts, nurtures, engages, and retains skilled veterinarians who provide exceptional care and meet established performance benchmarks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence and quality care among the veterinary team (DVM, CVT, VA) in their assigned locations. The Veterinary Area Manager collaborates with the Practice Manager (if applicable) to ensure that every pet receives consistent and high-quality care, adhering to our six domains of quality: safe, effective, patient/client-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within oneself and the team.
2. Champion quality by promoting a culture of safety and excellence at the hospital level, optimizing medical care, client satisfaction, team engagement, and overall hospital performance.
3. Conduct regular visits and quality assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and Banfield's quality expectations while enhancing veterinarian engagement.
4. Mentor and develop associate veterinarians in the technical and functional skills necessary for success, ensuring they deliver outstanding medical care aligned with our quality domains and support business performance.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT
In collaboration with the Director of Veterinary Quality (DVQ), the Veterinary Area Manager is responsible for building a strong and effective veterinary team through recruitment, referrals, and leading the onboarding and training of new veterinarians. This includes:
- Guiding associate and lead veterinarians to mentor new hires and provide an exceptional onboarding experience.
- Achieving veterinary quality KPIs to support hospital and market objectives.
- Facilitating clinical skill and leadership development for veterinarians to ensure high-quality medical care and excellent client service.
TALENT MANAGEMENT
In partnership with the Regional P&O Co-Pilot (POCP) and the DVQ, identify and cultivate future veterinary leaders within the organization. Drive engagement and retention initiatives in collaboration with DVQ, POCP, and operations to minimize turnover and provide consistent support at the hospital level.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Support the engagement and retention of certified veterinary technicians (CVTs).
2. Manage medical equipment inventory and functionality in assigned hospitals, coordinating with the DVQ and Regional Vice President of Veterinary Quality (VPVQ) for additional equipment needs.
3. Collaborate with the Practice Manager (PM) to ensure proper maintenance and calibration of medical equipment in line with practice standards.
PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT
Actively participate in local, state, and national veterinary organizations to build relationships within the veterinary community, promoting Banfield's brand reputation. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including controlled substance management and radiation safety.
OTHER DUTIES
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
THE FIVE PRINCIPLES
Quality: The consumer is our boss, quality is our work, and value for money is our goal.
Responsibility: As individuals, we demand total responsibility.
