Austin Campaign Manager Job Description

VOCAL-TX is a grassroots membership organization dedicated to creating healthy and just communities. We're seeking an Austin Campaign Manager to build and coordinate local campaigns, focusing on developing the power and leadership of low-income people of color affected by HIV, drug use, mass incarceration, and homelessness.

This role will work closely with VOCAL-TX Co-Directors, Organizers, and Leaders to coordinate policy, advocacy, and community organizing components of our campaigns. Key responsibilities include:

Team Development
  • Establish and facilitate regular team meetings to develop strategy and troubleshoot campaign challenges.
  • Support a results-driven team to build capacity for our campaigns.
Campaign Strategy
  • Support staff and VOCAL-TX members in identifying advocacy issues and developing campaign strategy.
  • Ensure timely and effective implementation of campaign plans.
Coalition Building
  • Represent VOCAL-TX in coalitions and build relationships with key allies.
  • Mobilize other organizations to support VOCAL-TX goals.
Legislative & Budget Work
  • Support Co-Directors in monitoring city and state budget and legislative processes.
  • Identify and develop budget and legislative priorities.
  • Lead a grassroots lobbying strategy to pass legislation or adopt budget priorities.
Campaign Materials
  • Oversee the preparation of policy and research reports, legislative summaries, and other campaign materials.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of full-time community organizing, advocacy, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to housing and homelessness issues, harm reduction, and ending mass incarceration.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing assignments.
  • Excellent written communication and organizational skills.
