Position Overview

Hawk Link is on the lookout for outstanding student leaders who are dedicated to assisting new students in their transition to university life. As integral members of the Hawk Link Success Team, these leaders will actively contribute to the academic and professional development of incoming students by serving as mentors, role models, and community builders.

The selected student leaders will participate in a comprehensive training program and engage in various activities designed to foster connections among students. This role is pivotal during the early transition program.

Role Responsibilities

Student leaders will be responsible for leading and guiding incoming students through sessions that cover essential topics, including:

  • Building friendships and establishing campus connections. (25%)
  • Understanding college expectations and making faculty connections. (25%)
  • Exploring personal values and their relation to career paths. (10%)
  • Developing academic skills necessary for success in college. (10%)
  • Navigating university technology systems. (10%)
  • Accessing well-being support and services. (10%)
  • Mastering time management to balance academic and extracurricular commitments. (10%)

Student leaders may have the opportunity to continue their involvement as Hawk Link Student Specialists throughout the academic year.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a full-time student in good academic standing.
  • Must have achieved sophomore status or higher by hours and years of attendance.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 throughout the employment period.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation abilities to diverse groups.
  • Ability to connect effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated responsibility, positive attitude, and teamwork orientation.
  • Willingness to learn about university resources and policies.
  • Experience in overcoming challenges faced by first-generation and low-income students.

Salary and Work Schedule

The position offers a competitive hourly wage and a maximum work schedule of 40 hours. Additional benefits include meals during training and events, as well as housing accommodations for eligible students.
