Job Overview

ABM Industries is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee the comprehensive maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems within our facilities. This role is pivotal in ensuring the longevity and reliability of all systems in place.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage all preventive maintenance and repair operations at the facility.
  • Schedule emergency repairs based on priority and the capabilities of assigned personnel.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members regarding electrical theory, mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct equipment inspections to assess condition and ensure adherence to maintenance standards.
  • Implement a quality assurance program for all departmental work.
  • Participate in various facility programs related to safety, disaster preparedness, and pollution control.
  • Develop and recommend policies to enhance facility operations and physical plant management.
  • Create a comprehensive plan for managing and inspecting all equipment within the facility.
  • Advise on equipment purchases to replace outdated items and assist in long-term replacement planning.
  • Assist in formulating operating and extraordinary expense budgets as necessary.
  • Establish standards and methods for departmental services, focusing on quality and efficiency.
  • Communicate policies and procedures effectively, addressing job-related issues and employee concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote safe working practices throughout the facility.
  • Optimize building systems for efficiency, particularly concerning utility consumption and environmental sustainability.
  • Maintain a self-improvement program to stay updated on new equipment, standards, and maintenance practices.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in a similar facility.
  • Possession of the highest-level state/local license for Stationary Engineer and/or HVAC, along with a universal refrigerant recovery license.
  • Desirable certifications include BOMA accredited courses, High-rise Fire Safety Director, Haz-Mat Certification, Indoor Air Quality Certification, and LEED Certification.
  • Certification meeting OSHA ACM awareness training requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of energy conservation principles, with formal training preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in employee relations, coaching, and training.
  • Competence in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with computer systems and building automation is essential.
