Position Summary: ABM Industries, a prominent provider of integrated facility solutions, is seeking a Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing all activities and personnel related to the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems within a facility. The primary objective is to ensure the longevity and reliability of all systems.

The Chief Engineer must demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to undertake all assigned duties, which may encompass the maintenance and operation of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems, as well as general building maintenance and inspections. The Chief Engineer is also responsible for responding to client requests, managing work orders, and procuring necessary parts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage all preventive maintenance and repair operations at the facility, prioritizing emergency repair activities based on urgency and the skills of assigned personnel.
  • Provide technical guidance, support, and training to team members in areas such as electrical theory, mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct equipment inspections to assess condition and ensure maintenance is performed in accordance with industry standards.
  • Implement quality assurance programs for all departmental work.
  • Participate in various facility programs and committees related to safety, disaster preparedness, fire safety, pollution control, and civil defense.
  • Develop and recommend site-specific policies and procedures to enhance facility operations.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive plan for managing all capital and non-capital equipment within the facility.
  • Advise on equipment purchases to replace outdated items and assist in long-term equipment replacement planning.
  • Assist in the development and execution of operating and extraordinary expense budgets as needed.
  • Establish standards and work methods to enhance departmental efficiency and performance.
  • Communicate policies and procedures effectively, addressing job-related issues and employee concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote safe working practices throughout the facility.
  • Oversee the efficient operation of building systems, focusing on utility consumption and environmental responsibility.
  • Maintain a continuous self-improvement program to stay updated on new equipment, standards, codes, and maintenance practices.

Qualifications:

  • Experience relevant to the specific facility for the Chief Engineer position.
  • Possession of the highest-level relevant state/local license for Stationary Engineer and/or HVAC, along with a universal level refrigerant recovery license.
  • Completion of BOMA accredited courses is desirable.
  • Preferred certifications include High-rise Fire Safety Director, Haz-Mat Certification, Indoor Air Quality Certification, and LEED Certification.
  • Certification meeting OSHA ACM awareness training requirements as applicable.
  • Working knowledge of energy conservation is required; formal training is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent employee relations, coaching, and training abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Required computer skills and experience with building automation systems.
