The Senior Production Planning Specialist plays a crucial role in orchestrating the production processes at Suncast Corporation. This position involves overseeing production lines and machinery that operate continuously, ensuring optimal efficiency within a unionized setting. Proficiency in materials resource planning (MRP) systems, along with advanced spreadsheet and database skills, is essential.

This specialist will take charge of scheduling the necessary end products and their associated components. Collaboration with various departments, including procurement, sales, manufacturing, quality control, and logistics, is vital. The role may require availability during evenings and weekends as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

The following tasks are fundamental to this role, with the possibility of additional duties being assigned:

  • Engage daily with Customer Service to address immediate product shortages (1 to 2 week outlook).
  • Work alongside the Forecasting team to integrate medium-term demand fluctuations into the Master Schedule (3 to 8 week outlook).
  • Formulate long-term pre-build strategies to maximize resource utilization.
  • Manage safety stock levels and replenishment goals for individual stock keeping units (SKUs).
  • Oversee the shop calendar.
  • Generate weekly reports on Inventory Changes and Demand versus Plan Valuation, presenting findings.
  • Compile monthly Finished Goods and Materials Inventory Change Reports for the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings.
  • Assemble Unique Materials Inventory Reports for Sales as required.
  • Conduct Build versus Scrap Analysis Reports concerning surplus and obsolete materials and products.
  • Adhere to and promote all safety policies, quality standards, and housekeeping practices established by Suncast Corporation.

Qualifications:

To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are indicative of the skills and knowledge required:

  • An Associate's Degree is mandatory; a Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of two years of experience in production planning is required.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulatory guidelines. Ability to respond to inquiries from management, engineers, and colleagues.
  • Mathematical proficiency, including the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to real-world scenarios.
  • Capability to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and communicate effectively to achieve desired outcomes. Ability to interpret complex technical instructions in both mathematical and diagrammatic forms.
  • Expertise in computer applications is essential. Candidates must be adept at utilizing advanced features of spreadsheets and databases for data analysis, and possess the ability to learn AS400 query methods. Advanced knowledge of MRP systems is required.

Occasionally, walking within office and manufacturing areas will be necessary, as well as attending meetings in production settings. Vision requirements include the ability to see close for reading printed materials and computer screens, as well as distance vision and focus capability. This is a full-time role, and due to production schedule variations, the employee may need to be on call and work additional hours to meet demands.

While fulfilling these responsibilities, the employee will primarily work in an office environment. However, as Suncast Corporation is a manufacturing entity, entering the production area may be necessary to complete certain tasks. Typically, office spaces are climate-controlled with moderate noise levels, while manufacturing areas may experience seasonal temperature and humidity fluctuations. Noise levels in manufacturing settings are generally moderate, and safety equipment is mandatory when in these areas.
