Position Overview

Bellevue is recognized as "A City in a Park," featuring a park system that encompasses 2,700 acres of parks and open spaces. The Parks and Community Services Department offers a unique opportunity for individuals as a Grounds Maintenance Technician II – Limited Term Employee (LTE). The Grounds Maintenance Program is responsible for managing and supporting Bellevue's Community Parks and sports fields. We seek a motivated individual eager to develop and learn within our vibrant team.

The Parks Maintenance Technician II – LTE engages in various manual labor activities to assist fully-trained staff in repairing, maintaining, operating, and installing essential city or park infrastructure systems and/or supporting events or activities. The role involves routine and repetitive tasks, processes, and operations, performed collaboratively with other team members while ensuring safety for oneself, coworkers, and the public in all weather conditions.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS:
The Parks Maintenance Technician II – LTE is designed for a duration of up to 20-24 months. Candidates with prior experience in landscape and/or natural area maintenance are preferred, along with the ability to work independently in public park environments with minimal oversight.

HIRING PROCESS: This recruitment will be utilized to fill two vacancies within the Parks and Community Services Department. The posting will remain open until filled.

Core Responsibilities

Key Duties:

Parks - Grounds, Structural, and Natural Resource Maintenance: Includes mowing, brush cutting, leaf collection, drainage system repairs, pipe and concrete laying, surface pressure washing, bench and table repairs, painting, sign repairs, playground surface restoration, grading, and other landscaping tasks; performs ballfield maintenance such as lining, dragging, and grading; conducts golf course maintenance including work on tees, greens, fairways, and bunkers; irrigation repairs and course setup; storm damage clearance; tree pruning; new landscape installation; trail component construction; and implementation of wetland, forestry, wildlife, and stream enhancement projects. Prepares surfaces for seeding and vegetation. Supervision Structure:
Operates under the close supervision of a lead worker, crew leader, or other supervisory personnel. Once proficiency is established, individuals in this role may work independently or with minimal supervision throughout the workday. Receives direct supervision on job sites in most instances, though the level of supervision may decrease as proficiency in task execution and equipment operation improves. May work autonomously based on clear instructions. Parks - Grounds, Structural, and Natural Resource Maintenance: Functions under direct supervision as appropriate.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Familiarity with hand-held power tools and related maintenance equipment. Basic mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity. Understanding of preventive maintenance processes, techniques, and procedures. Ability to learn safe operation of necessary equipment and machinery for assigned tasks. Capacity to listen and comprehend directions, communicate effectively with team members, and interact with customers courteously. Ability to execute work efficiently while maintaining respect and courtesy towards coworkers and the public. Effective communication skills. Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred, along with 2-4 months of relevant construction or maintenance labor experience. Alternatively, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience adhering to safety protocols is desirable. Depending on the assignment, a valid Washington driver's license may be required upon hire. A good driving record in accordance with city standards is essential. (Proof will be required during the interview.) Physical Requirements

The role involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reaching with hands and arms. Activities may include pulling, pushing, climbing, standing, bending, or stooping for extended periods. Lifting, carrying, or crawling may be required. Vision abilities necessary for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may need to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 75 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderately loud. Exposure may include traffic, fumes, chemicals, flying debris, or noise. Employees exposed to such conditions will be required to provide and wear appropriate protective footwear (ANSI approved). Employees must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and provide weather-related gear as needed. Employees must wear work clothing suitable for their duties, with some tasks requiring long-sleeved shirts.

This is a limited term position lasting up to 36 months, non-exempt, union role. (Teamsters Local #763)

Limited Term Employee (LTE): A fully benefited employee appointed to serve in a position scheduled for a minimum of 30 hours a week for a specific project with a defined ending date, anticipated to last more than five months but not exceeding three consecutive years (36 months).
