Position Overview

Bellevue, recognized as "A City in a Park," boasts a park system that encompasses 2,700 acres of recreational areas and natural spaces. The Parks and Community Services Department is offering a distinctive opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Technician II – Limited Term Employee (LTE). This role is integral to the Grounds Maintenance Program, which oversees the management and upkeep of Bellevue's Community Parks and athletic fields. We seek a motivated individual eager to develop and learn within our vibrant team.

The Parks Maintenance Technician II – LTE will undertake various manual labor activities to assist fully-trained staff in the repair, upkeep, operation, and installation of essential city or park infrastructure systems, as well as support events and activities. The work will involve routine and repetitive tasks, performed collaboratively with colleagues, ensuring safety for oneself, coworkers, and the public in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
The Parks Grounds Maintenance Technician II – LTE position is intended for a duration of up to 20-24 months. Previous experience in landscape or natural area maintenance is preferred, along with the capability to work independently in public park environments with minimal oversight.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Parks - Grounds, Structural, and Natural Resource Maintenance: Mowing; brush cutting; leaf collection; drainage system repairs; pipe and concrete laying; surface pressure washing; bench and table repairs; painting; sign repairs; playground surface restoration; grading and landscaping tasks; ballfield maintenance including lining, dragging, and grading; golf course upkeep including work on tees, greens, fairways, and bunkers; irrigation repairs and course setup; storm damage clearance; tree pruning; new landscape installation; trail component construction; and implementation of wetland, forestry, wildlife, and stream enhancement initiatives. Surface preparation for seeding and vegetation. Supervision Structure:
Operates under the close supervision of a lead worker, crew leader, or other supervisory personnel. Once proficiency is demonstrated, individuals in this role may be assigned to work independently or with minimal supervision throughout the workday. Receives direct oversight while on-site, although the level of supervision may decrease as proficiency in task execution and equipment operation improves. May work autonomously based on clear instructions. Parks - Grounds, Structural, and Natural Resource Maintenance: Functions under direct supervision as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Familiarity with hand-held power tools and related maintenance equipment. Basic mechanical skills and manual dexterity. Understanding of preventive maintenance processes, techniques, and procedures. Ability to learn the safe operation of the necessary equipment and machinery for assigned tasks. Capacity to listen and comprehend directions, communicate effectively with team members, and respond to customers courteously. Ability to execute work efficiently and in a manner that earns respect and demonstrates courtesy to coworkers and the public. Effective communication skills. Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred, along with 2-4 months of relevant construction or maintenance labor experience. Alternatively, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience adhering to safety regulations and procedures is desirable. Depending on the assignment, possession of a valid Washington driver's license may be required at the time of hire. A good driving record in accordance with city standards is necessary. (Proof will be required during the interview.) Physical Requirements

This is a limited term position, non-exempt, and part of the union (Teamsters Local #763).

Limited Term Employee (LTE): A fully benefited employee appointed to serve in a position scheduled to work a minimum of 30 hours a week for a specific project with a designated ending date, anticipated to last more than five months but not exceeding three consecutive years (36 months).
