Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of High School Placement, the High School Placement Counselor plays a crucial role in guiding scholars and their families through the high school placement process. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing programming and support for middle school scholars within our network. The High School Placement Counselor will build strong partnerships with school leadership, teaching staff, parents, and guardians.

  • Experience in high school admissions, education, or the nonprofit sector.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred, particularly with students in grades 5-8.
  • Familiarity with various school admissions processes, academic advising, and financial aid.
  • Strong collaborative skills and a proactive team-oriented mindset.
  • Demonstrated dedication to educational equity for underrepresented youth.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and integrity, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse family cultures and dynamics.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Bengali is advantageous.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist in all facets of the high school admissions process, including scholar essays, portfolios, test preparation, interviews, and financial aid guidance.
  • Collaborate with the Director of High School Placement to create a cohesive and comprehensive placement process for all scholars.
  • Instruct and support middle school students in high school preparation curriculum, equipping them for competitive independent day and boarding schools, Catholic, specialized, and selective public schools.
  • Engage with middle school parents through individual and group meetings to discuss the high school placement process, including options, test preparation, and financial aid.
  • Prepare scholars for various high school admission assessments and assist with their essays and portfolios.
  • Coordinate and supervise practice exams and mock interviews for scholars.
  • Document notes from meetings with scholars and parents.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive scholar profiles.
  • Nominate scholars for academic enrichment and competitive programs.
  • Prepare families for open houses and registration for entrance exams.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents regarding the application process.
  • Support network High School Placement office hours for application assistance as needed.
  • Ensure timely processing of admissions documents and applications.
  • Assist in executing summer programming for High School Placement.
  • Participate in educational fairs with scholars and families.
  • Provide additional support to the Director of High School Placement as required.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Working Environment

  • This is a year-round position, requiring flexibility to work during the summer, evenings, and weekends as necessary to support our scholars and their families.
  • Willingness to travel within our network for high school placement support.
  • This position will be based on-site at one of our middle schools and will report to the Director of High School Placement and the Principal.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, within the range of $65,000-$75,000.
