Job Title: Communications Associate

Job Summary:

The Communications Associate will play a key role in developing and implementing communications strategies to enhance the Yale School of Music's reputation and communicate its messages effectively. This includes creating and managing communications materials, conducting market research, and managing social media platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage communications materials, including newsletters, blog posts, and press releases.
  • Conduct market research to stay up-to-date on research trends and identify opportunities for communications.
  • Manage social media platforms, including creating and scheduling posts, engaging with followers, and analyzing metrics.
  • Work with the Director of Communications to develop and implement communications strategies.
  • Collaborate with communications colleagues throughout the school and university to highlight the work of researchers and create a high-profile presence.
  • Build relationships with faculty, administrators, departments, and students to maintain contact and stay informed about research trends.
  • Conceptualize and write creative posts across all social media platforms.
  • Participate in regular editorial/content meetings to propose story ideas and stay up-to-date on research trends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in science writing, social media, digital journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with special emphasis on developing communication strategy, advanced writing ability, and editorial accuracy.
  • Demonstrated strategic writing, editing, and oral communication skills, with ability to analyze and articulate ideas to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing communications for a range of media and working with creative professionals in design, photography, video, and web design and management.
  • Ability to independently lead a team of creatives, set priorities, and deadlines, and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Strong graphic design and visual sensibilities, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of demonstrated experience in communications, including knowledge of design principles, social media platforms, and strong writing skills.
  • Photography and agency experience is desired but not required.
  • Demonstrated experience in classical music is a plus.

The Communications Associate will work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, with frequent interactions with faculty, administrators, departments, and students. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
