Job Title: Academic Advisor

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team. As an Academic Advisor, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of our students by providing guidance, resources, and support to help them achieve their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic advising services to assigned students, including developing and implementing individualized academic plans, monitoring student progress, and providing guidance on academic policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other advisors to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student support.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and staff to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Stay current with university policies, procedures, and academic programs to provide accurate and up-to-date information to students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance advising skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • Masters degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time advising experience working directly with students in a college or university setting.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to ask searching questions and practice active listening.
  • Ability to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles, practices, and best practices.
  • Experience with advising software and technology.
