General Function:

Under the direction of the Director of Airfield Maintenance and Grounds, the Vehicle Fleet Operations Supervisor is tasked with overseeing and organizing vehicle maintenance activities. This includes preventive, mechanical, and electrical repairs for a diverse array of vehicles and equipment, encompassing both gasoline and diesel-powered machinery, heavy construction vehicles, firefighting apparatus, and snow removal equipment, along with any non-powered accessories owned by the Authority. The role involves providing leadership and technical guidance to vehicle mechanics while also engaging in hands-on maintenance tasks. It is essential to ensure that all repair activities are executed safely, efficiently, and effectively, utilizing the appropriate tools.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervises, prioritizes, and allocates tasks for the prompt inspection, repair, and servicing of fleet vehicles (both gasoline and diesel-powered) and non-powered accessories, including but not limited to the repair, replacement, and maintenance of brakes, pumps, lights, steering systems, starters, generators, universal joints, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conducts cost-benefit analyses to determine whether vehicle maintenance tasks should be performed by Authority personnel or outsourced to external contractors.
  • Provides training and mentorship to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Manages inventory levels and ensures timely procurement of necessary parts.
  • Maintains accurate records of vehicle inspections, repairs, and maintenance, utilizing the Authority's work order system and fleet management software effectively.
  • Oversees welding and fabrication tasks as required.
  • Handles emergency repairs in the field as needed.
  • Keeps work areas and equipment organized, clean, and safe.
  • Ensures compliance with DOT, OSHA, and all Authority safety regulations, including the proper selection and use of tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), machine guarding, and established safety practices.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance and mechanical repairs on passenger boarding bridges as necessary.
  • Operates snow removal equipment and performs snow removal duties as assigned.
  • May be required to work extended hours and respond to emergency call-ins.
  • Performs additional assignments and duties as directed.
Employment Qualifications:

• Must possess a valid Driver's License and maintain appropriate driving privileges as determined by the Authority.

• Strong interpersonal skills that foster positive relationships with employees and stakeholders, including staff and external partners.

• Proven experience operating various vehicles, including skid steer loaders, front-end loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks.

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical abilities.

• Capable of working collaboratively in a team setting as well as independently while exercising sound judgment.

• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Effective communication skills via two-way radio, email, phone, and in-person interactions.

• Must pass a criminal history background check and maintain eligibility for a security access badge in accordance with the Authority's Airport Security Plan.

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED and completion of a technical program in vehicle mechanics.
  • Demonstrated professional understanding of vehicle maintenance.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
  • ASE certifications are preferred.
This position operates on a standard 1 shift (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM).

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

This role is primarily conducted in a garage/shop environment but may require outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Frequent movement between work locations over uneven surfaces is necessary, with exposure to noise, vibrations, chemicals, and other contaminants, as well as extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Candidates must possess sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, and auditory ability, with or without assistive devices. The ability to tolerate noise levels up to 120 decibels is required, along with the capacity to remain on one's feet for extended periods. Additional physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. unassisted. Candidates must be able to distinguish colors as necessary for interpreting light signals from the Air Traffic Control Tower.
