Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional Experimental Quantum Optics R&D Engineer to join our team at PsiQuantum. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for experimentally characterizing, validating, and troubleshooting complex photonic circuits, which are the building blocks of our scalable quantum computer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute experiments to test individual photonic circuits using various optical and electro-optical methods.
  • Generate detailed characterization reports and document procedures and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Develop and implement experimental test stations and control software, including formulating plans and estimating budgets for experimental builds.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of relevant experimental work in photonics and integrated optics in the telecom regime (PhD or industry experience).
  • Proven skill in designing and complex photonics experiments.
  • Proven skill in writing control software (preferably Python).
  • Proven skill in modeling and analyzing experiments (preferably Python/Mathematica).
  • Proven skill in applied physics.
  • Proven experience in computational thinking.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Linear optics, free-space imaging, microscopy, fiber optics.
  • Laser optics (physics, operation, and safety) and nonlinear optics (parametric processes, four-wave mixing, Raman spectroscopy).
  • Experimental physics at the single-photon level (sources, or quantum optical circuits).
  • Software development for experimental control systems.
  • Theory of light propagating in confined modes (waveguides, resonators, interferometers).
  • Theory of quantum optics, nonlinear optics, quantum information theory.
  • Experience in leading technical projects.
  • Operation of cryogenic equipment.
