Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant to join our team at Wake County Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial and budgetary records, preparing financial reports, and performing clerical activities related to the accounting cycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze charter school PMR data to calculate and distribute local funds to eligible charter schools.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts for charter school funds and prepare periodic financial and budgetary reports for management use.
  • Review monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and prepare reports for the Senior Director of Accounting.
  • Respond to external audit and public information requests for charter school allotments.
  • Assist the Senior Director of Accounting with general ledger entries, code changes, and year-end entries for close out.
  • Perform financial system testing and assist in the preparation of schedules and related information required for the annual audit of the comprehensive annual financial report.
  • Support budget managers, bookkeepers, and lead secretaries with various financial matters.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in business or accounting and four years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form and establish effective working relationships with school system staff and community members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of generally accepted governmental accounting principles and intermediate skills with Microsoft Access and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Oracle financial applications.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will be able to use a variety of office equipment and communicate effectively. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to ten pounds and spend time standing and/or walking.
