Job Title: Managing Senior Director of Development

Emory University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Managing Senior Director of Development to lead our fundraising efforts for the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.

About the Role:

This is a key leadership position that will oversee the development of strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support education, patient care, and research programs for the school.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to achieve annual and long-term goals
  • Solicit gifts of $100,000 to $5 million from individuals, corporations, and foundations
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects through regular solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls
  • Build relationships with faculty, administrators, deans, and division/University leadership to develop and interpret priorities of the school/unit with donor goals/interests
  • Partner with central advancement offices to ensure proper qualification, cultivation, and stewardship of potential gift prospects
  • Develop and oversee the writing/production of fundraising materials, including case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, gift proposals, appreciation letters, donor reports, and campaign status reports
  • Enforce the maintenance of information on selected donors and prospects in the CRM system
  • Communicate in ways that are donor-centric, while furthering the mission of Emory
  • Travel to meet with donors as needed
  • Manage a team of professionals that may include alumni engagement, advancement, and support staff
  • Manage the administrative operations of the school/unit advancement office and respective budgets
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of experience in fundraising with management or leadership experience
  • Successful candidates will possess experience as lead solicitor, closing gifts of $100,000+ and $1M+ from prospects
  • Prior experience working with comprehensive campaigns, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting
  • Experience managing budgets and financial reports, working with various technologies, including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service
  • Master's level degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as effective presentation skills
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion
  • Capacity to lead and develop a team's skills through effective feedback and coaching, motivating and empowering colleagues while being institutionally minded, strategic, and impactful
