Position Overview
Under general supervision, oversees the investigation, management, and prompt resolution of Workers Compensation claims in accordance with account, carrier, and company protocols. Collaborates with the VP and/or Assistant VP of Claims to manage the Service Center effectively.
Key Responsibilities
1. Establishes and articulates performance benchmarks and objectives, conducting regular performance evaluations. Implements corrective measures for any performance issues in alignment with human resource policies. Recommends and approves salary adjustments, promotions, transfers, and terminations. Ensures all human resource policies are communicated and adhered to by the team.
2. Analyzes and assigns claims to the appropriate examiners, ensuring directives are followed accurately. Balances workloads in accordance with established staffing models and suggests improvements for productivity and timely case closures.
3. Conducts daily file reviews to guide further actions based on best practices. Assists in reserve recommendations and approvals, providing coaching on investigations, evaluations, and settlement strategies. Ensures compliance with internal and external standards for large loss reporting.
4. Keeps the VP/Assistant VP of Claims informed of activities and challenges within the area of responsibility, escalating issues as necessary. Performs additional related tasks as required.
5. Utilizes the Risk Tech Claim System and associated systems to optimize workflows for maximum efficiency. May assist in training new and existing staff on the operation of these systems.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
+ A minimum of five years of progressive experience as a Claim Examiner or equivalent, demonstrating the ability to manage complex cases with sound judgment.
+ Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
+ Industry designations (IIA, AIC, AEI, CPCU) are advantageous but not mandatory.
+ Must meet state licensing requirements for the relevant lines of insurance.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
+ Strong analytical skills and good mathematical aptitude are required.
+ Ability to effectively manage, supervise, and develop team members.
+ Comprehensive knowledge of services provided by the branch office and in-depth understanding of insurance coverages and practices.
+ Familiarity with legal, medical, and technical disciplines is beneficial.
