Role Summary:

As a pivotal member of our specialized team, you will be instrumental in the design and development of engine control systems and avionics tailored to meet the rigorous demands of our rocket engines. Your expertise will be crucial in defining system architectures, both hardware and software, that align with program specifications while promoting reusability.

This role will also see you leading the establishment of best practices and processes, serving as a technical authority within the Engine Avionics division. Your contributions will play a significant role in shaping the future of space travel, requiring a steadfast commitment to safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and support trade studies to determine optimal power conversion architectures for avionics.
  • Assist in formulating requirements for power conversion applications utilized in avionics systems.
  • Design power conversion circuits that comply with environmental standards, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Oversee worst-case scenario analyses for power conversion circuits to ensure resilience against component variations and aging.
  • Facilitate peer reviews of power conversion designs, ensuring readiness for productization.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards for software and hardware in engine avionics development.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather and disseminate best practices and technical insights that benefit the organization.
  • Engage with suppliers and manufacturing to assess components that meet program requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in developing complex electronic systems for aerospace applications.
  • Proven expertise in electronic power conversion, particularly in voltage regulator design for applications under 1KW.
  • Experience with various voltage regulator architectures, including boost, buck, linear, and multi-phase designs.
  • Proficient in specifying magnetic components for power conversion systems.
  • Skilled in selecting semiconductor controls and power devices suitable for high-reliability environments.
  • Experienced in developing verification and testing methodologies for voltage regulators.
  • Strong background in aerospace hardware and compliance with DO-160 and DO-254 standards.
  • Proficient in electrical design simulation tools.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying analytical results.
  • Ability to foster trust and maintain professional relationships within a diverse team.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful resident.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in product development within a robust systems engineering framework.
  • Expertise in motor control electronics.
  • Familiarity with control systems in the aerospace sector.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
