About the Role

The Total Loss Claims Representative is a key member of our Auto Claims Organization, responsible for identifying, negotiating, and settling total losses with insureds and claimants. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate and communicate total loss and diminished value settlements in accordance with company and state guidelines.
  • Understand and effectively communicate total loss evaluation methodology to vehicle owners.
  • Review damage estimates to confirm vehicles are total losses.
  • Document all settlements and actions in the claim file system.
  • Work with salvage vendors to move vehicles and obtain salvage bids as necessary.
  • Negotiate and settle claims within individual authority, submitting claims for approval to supervisor when necessary.
  • Escalate claims to supervisor when not moving in a positive direction.
  • Maintain an effective diary system on pending files, prioritizing and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Adjust to fluctuating workload and responsibilities.
  • Keep involved parties and agents updated on claim status and emerging issues.
  • Ensure service, loss, and expense control are maintained at all times.
  • Adhere to privacy guidelines, laws, and regulations pertaining to claims handling.
  • Prepare payments to vehicle owners, banks, and lease companies.
Requirements
  • Property and casualty claims handling experience desired.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and MS Outlook.
