Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is in search of a dedicated Cost Accounting Specialist to enhance our Finance and Administration Department. This full-time position will report directly to the Controller. The successful candidate should possess a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in Cost Accounting and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.

This role requires a self-driven individual eager to advance their career. Below are the responsibilities and qualifications for this position.

Position Summary

The Cost Accounting Specialist will conduct comprehensive cost accounting analyses to evaluate estimates for all Commercial and Roadwork project expenses against actual costs and forecasts. The role includes updating the corresponding Work In Progress (WIP) schedule and generating various budget and ad hoc reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct quarterly audits and monthly assessments on ongoing projects.
  • Examine costing outcomes to ensure accurate accounting of quantities and expenses.
  • Collaborate with field personnel to address potential discrepancies in quantities, billing, or costs.
  • Evaluate the performance of construction projects relative to their estimates.
  • Perform diverse analyses of costs and quantities for management review.
  • Establish various allocations, budget adjustments, and forecasts for management.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of Financial Statements.
  • Carry out other related tasks as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiar with Essbase or similar analytical database software.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, monthly closing processes, project management/construction accounting concepts, and unit costing.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload and deliverables, and handle confidential information.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of two to three years' experience in cost accounting.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.

This position operates within a standard office environment, utilizing typical office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, salaried position. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in work hours is permitted, but the employee must be available during core hours and work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Hybrid working options may be available once the employee demonstrates effective management of the position's responsibilities.
