Job Overview: Under the direct supervision of the Lead Patient Access Clerk, this role encompasses a range of registration, admission, public relations, financial, and medical service responsibilities. The incumbent will conduct interviews to initiate patient accounts, assess information to ensure the correct flow of patient type, hospital service codes, diagnoses, tests, and necessary procedures, while prioritizing medical necessity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Determine the required documentation and forms based on medical and financial indicators.
  • Secure information to facilitate prompt reimbursement.
  • Initiate collection efforts by requesting co-payments, deposits, and anticipated balances.
  • Educate patients on medical necessity requirements.
  • Receive and document payments in various forms, including cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Act as a liaison between patients, visitors, and treatment authorization personnel.
  • Provide information and address inquiries regarding consent for treatment, assignment of benefits, financial responsibility, record releases, patient rights, and advanced directives.
  • Maintain necessary documentation, including patient medical records, logs, and schedules, both written and electronic.
  • Identify, respond to, and announce all code phone and wall alarm activations.


Educational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications: Proficient typing skills (40+ wpm), strong computer proficiency, familiarity with medical terminology is highly preferred, and experience in a medical environment is advantageous.
