The program emphasizes technical skill development, dedicated training, and a supportive team atmosphere, ensuring that all swimmers thrive both personally and athletically.
Position Objective
The Assistant Coach will collaborate closely with the Head Coach to manage all facets of the Men's and Women's Swimming Program. This role encompasses 0.93 FTE, equating to 1934 annual hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Training & Competition: Aid the Head Coach in organizing practices, ensuring safe and effective training sessions, and supporting all competitive events.
- Recruitment: Assist in developing a comprehensive recruitment strategy to attract and retain qualified student-athletes, adhering to institutional and NCAA guidelines.
- Budget Management: Facilitate responsible expenditures for the program and assist in budget oversight.
- Camps & Clinics: Support fundraising initiatives and assist in organizing swimming clinics and camps.
- Masters Swim Team: Act as the Head Coach for the Whitman Masters Swim Team.
- Meet Management: Help prepare for competitions, manage databases, and coordinate home meet logistics.
- Travel Coordination: Assist in planning and supervising travel arrangements for the team.
- Community Engagement: Organize outreach events for the team, alumni, and the local community.
- Professional Conduct: Uphold the college's values of integrity and sportsmanship in all interactions.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
- Aquatics Oversight: Support the Head Coach in managing the aquatic facilities and supervising lifeguard staff.
- Additional Duties: Complete special projects and other tasks as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
Essential Qualifications
- Possess a Bachelor's degree.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain current certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard or Lifeguard Instructor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coaching at the collegiate level is preferred; significant high school or club coaching experience may also be considered.
