Job Title: Automotive Equipment Mechanic II

We are seeking a highly skilled Automotive Equipment Mechanic II to join our team at the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. As a key member of our Fleet Management section, you will be responsible for performing complex mechanical work on a variety of vehicles and power equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and execute work orders for mechanical projects, including troubleshooting and determining the cause of equipment malfunction.
  • Perform difficult mechanical work, including major repairs on cars, trucks, and other equipment, such as rebuilding, changing, aligning, and modifying components and assemblies.
  • Repair electrical, mechanical, exhaust, fuel, lubrication, cooling, hydraulic, electronic, and computer utility system malfunctions.
  • Replace or overhaul brake and fuel systems, generators, alternators, starters, distributors, and electronic ignition systems.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on vehicles and other equipment, including changing oil, filters, and fluids, lubricating moving parts, and replacing or charging batteries.
  • Complete required administrative paperwork and record keeping.
  • Assign and maintain an inventory of power equipment, tools, safety equipment, and vehicles assigned to a crew.
  • Drive motor vehicles to carry workers and haul tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  • Completion of an approved mechanical apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair on automotive and/or heavy motor equipment.
  • Two (2) years of experience at the journey level.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements within 12 months of employment.
