Role Summary:

The Stroke and Sepsis Program Manager is tasked with orchestrating the services and systems essential for a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to stroke care. This role involves overseeing and managing the stroke program effectively.

The Program Manager collaborates closely with patients and their families, healthcare professionals, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, physicians, colleagues, volunteers, and community organizations. The program caters to patients aged 18 and above.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director, collaborate with the Director of Clinical and Professional Development and the Area Coordinating Team.
  • Ensure adherence to the Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development.
  • Advance and uphold nursing competence, enhance professional nursing practice, and support career goal achievement.
  • Foster an environment that encourages lifelong learning through innovative and engaging continuing education activities.
  • Implement evidence-based practice innovations and assess ongoing learning needs and practice changes.
  • Support a shared leadership philosophy and promote the professional practice model for patient care services.

Qualifications:

The Program Manager must possess an active nursing license in the state of Iowa and fulfill continuing education requirements as mandated by state licensure. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, along with a minimum of two years of clinical experience, is required. Experience in nursing education or as a nursing preceptor is preferred. Certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in staff development or a relevant specialty area is recommended.

Additional Information:

This full-time position operates Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Responsibilities include managing sepsis audits and patient care, participating in sepsis meetings, and providing education to staff to ensure optimal patient care.

The Program Manager will develop multidisciplinary educational programs related to stroke care and work closely with the Stroke Program Medical Director to maintain a high-quality stroke program. Effective communication with healthcare team members is crucial to achieving desired patient outcomes and evaluating nursing practices.

Furthermore, the Program Manager will ensure that the stroke program meets or exceeds the standards required for Joint Commission designation as a Primary Stroke Center. Quality assurance and improvement will be addressed through the utilization of the Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) - American Heart Association (AHA) stroke database.
