The Department of Economic Security, Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) plays a vital role in strengthening Arizona communities by addressing barriers to employment and promoting independence.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Vocational Support Specialist within the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).

This role will report to the Supervisor and will provide vocational support and counseling to individuals with disabilities, helping them overcome obstacles to employment and develop the necessary skills to secure and maintain jobs.

Entry-Level Vocational Support Specialist - Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field related to rehabilitation counseling or a similar area that prepares individuals to work with people with disabilities and employers, along with two years of experience in this field.

Intermediate Vocational Support Specialist - Requires a Master's degree in a closely related field to rehabilitation counseling and one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities (as defined by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification).
Senior Vocational Support Specialist - Must meet the Intermediate credential requirements and possess a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification.

This position may offer remote work options within Arizona (minimum of 2 days per week in the office/hoteling).

Across various agencies, many State employees participate in the State's Remote Work Program, allowing them to work from home, in offices, or in hoteling spaces.

All work, including remote tasks, should be conducted within Arizona unless a prior exception is authorized.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Introduce clients to the vocational support program, outlining eligibility criteria and client rights and responsibilities.
  • Review clients' medical and psychological information to identify employment needs, goals, and available services.
  • Provide case management and maintain regular communication with clients, service providers, and collaborators.
Additional Responsibilities for Intermediate and Senior Roles:
  • Offer guidance to Entry-Level Vocational Support Specialists.
  • May serve as a backup to the Rehabilitation Supervisor.
  • Possess knowledge of Federal and State laws, statutes, and regulations related to vocational rehabilitation.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of physical, mental, and cognitive disabilities.
  • Familiarity with referral and community resources.
  • Knowledge of computer access technology and assistive devices.
  • Candidates must undergo a background check as required by law.
  • Travel may be necessary for State business and training purposes.
