We are currently seeking an Automation Controls Specialist. This role is pivotal in overseeing electrical and controls engineering for extensive projects. Responsibilities include the design of control systems from the ground up (hardware/software/network), electrical panel design, power calculations, risk assessments, component selection and configuration, as well as control system programming and installation/commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead system design initiatives from initial concept to the creation of electrical/control components tailored to project specifications.
    • Proficient in design using drafting software (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Contribute to system integration efforts with other project disciplines
    • Collaborate with facility design to optimize panel placement, minimizing voltage drop and enhancing system hardware layout efficiency
  • Oversee vendor engagement to ensure compliance with safety, functionality, and contractual obligations
  • Ensure all designs adhere to local or governmental agency codes, as well as client standards
  • Generate and implement project technical risk assessment documentation
  • Conduct design and analysis for safety-critical components within control systems
  • Develop redundant systems to enhance safety and reliability
  • Design systems that integrate complex motion and automation technologies
  • Create comprehensive documentation for system configuration and design, including operational descriptions, detailed control system design documents, panel assembly drawings, schematics, network layouts, and system testing plans
  • Perform essential system design calculations and analyses: short circuit protection, harmonics, noise reduction, power consumption, load flow, and safety system implementation (knowledge of SIL/PL ratings preferred)
  • Experience in ride system design for attractions is advantageous
  • Willingness to work flexible hours during installation and commissioning phases to support project needs
Job Requirements:

  1. Strong organizational skills, technical proficiency, and effective communication abilities are essential. Experience in a multidisciplinary environment collaborating with engineers, designers, and drafters is required.
  2. Education - A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required. Degrees in other disciplines may be considered if directly related work experience in electrical engineering is evident.
  3. Experience - A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is preferred, with a focus on ASTM standards, the attractions industry, and safety engineering.
  4. Key Competencies - Familiarity with contract documents and specifications, ability to gather field data accurately, and proficiency in system design functions. Skills in planning, customer focus, timely decision-making, and problem-solving are crucial. Experience with hardware/software from major industrial manufacturers (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and ethernet-based distributed remote I/O systems is also beneficial.
  5. Skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office environments is required for all employees.
  6. Travel - Willingness to travel up to 30% is expected, with a lower percentage in recent project years.
Physical Demands of Position: The role requires visual acuity, color perception, auditory skills, clear speech, manual dexterity, and the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and operating equipment.

Working Conditions: Employees are expected to work on client locations five days a week, encompassing standard office environments, on-site offices, and various industrial/construction settings. Frequent use of PCs, copy machines, and phones is anticipated.
