The Site Administrator addresses the emotional, cognitive, social, and physical needs of children, while effectively engaging with parents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure consistency and quality in the Before/After Care program by being present for 50% of the program's operational hours.
  • Oversee the site(s), children, groups, and assigned activities while demonstrating safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate childcare practices.
  • Provide daily care for children, including feeding and supporting their social/emotional needs.
  • Encourage, engage, and assist children in all classroom activities, including instructional times, mealtimes, transitions, and physical activities.
  • Utilize positive behavior management techniques.
  • Plan, implement, and actively participate in daily age-appropriate classroom activities to ensure all children have learning opportunities, including literacy, healthy living, STEM, and physical activities.
  • Observe children and document their progress and development.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, branch administration, and parents to foster positive relationships that promote collaboration and increase parent involvement.
  • Ensure all participants receive an exceptional experience by addressing customer needs promptly and courteously.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the facility and all equipment/supplies daily.
  • Complete and maintain necessary program documentation, including children's attendance, meal counts, emergency drills, and daily parent communication.
  • Participate actively in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development trainings.
Leadership Duties
  • Ensure compliance with all YMCA and state regulatory standards, policies, and protocols, including Licensing, Stars, and DPH.
  • Attend and complete all required trainings as assigned.
  • Report program needs and concerns to the Child Development Director.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: To meet licensing requirements, the School Age Administrator must be at least 20 years old and meet one of the following qualifications:
  1. Option 1: A high school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE, along with at least 12 college or university credits from a regionally accredited institution in recreation, elementary education, school-age care, or school-age administration, plus six months of experience working with children in a group setting.
  2. Option 2: A high school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE, along with at least 6 college or university credits from a regionally accredited institution in recreation, elementary education, school-age care, or school-age administration, and the school-age bundle offered by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood, plus six months of experience working with children in a group setting.
  3. Option 3: A high school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE, along with the school-age bundle offered by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood, plus twelve months of experience working with children in a group setting.
  • Complete a physical and tuberculosis screening and provide documentation from a physician within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check as required by the State of Delaware.
  • Strong active listening skills to understand and adapt to the diverse needs of children and parents.
  • Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children.
  • Ability to provide activities that promote healthy development for children.
  • Ability to maintain control and discipline in the classroom.
  • Ability to create a supportive and nurturing environment for children and staff.
  • Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children independently in a classroom setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Multi-lingual abilities.
  • Prior experience working with youth in a group environment.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Flexibility and willingness to meet the needs of the early childhood community and staff team.
  • Capability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Ability to persuade and influence others.
  • Knowledge of early childhood/school-age education programs and techniques.
  • Understanding of child development theory and practice.
  • Aware of the unique needs of young children and maintain appropriate expectations of their abilities.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can work either 5 mornings, 5 afternoons, or both to ensure continuity of care for our students.
