Job Summary

The Baltimore City Community College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Elective Instructor to join our Upward Bound Math and Science Program team. As an Elective Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching one section of an elective subject/course to high school students, promoting student learning, and creating a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement instructional activities that promote student learning in elective subjects.
  • Create a focused environment of fairness and respect that encourages students to take risks and strive to reach goals.
  • Communicate and enforce high expectations and standards for behavior and academic performance aligned with the BCCC Upward Bound Math and Science Program standards.
  • Experience with student-centered and project-based curriculum is required.
  • Communicate regularly with Upward Bound staff about classroom needs, student performance, and progress.
  • Experience using teaching methods to address student learning styles and knowledge of current technology is essential.
  • Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of student attendance and daily progress throughout the creation of the final project.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and others.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least two years of teaching experience in a Specialty (Elective) or a closely related field.
  • Proficient in creating engaging, hands-on projects tailored for youth that foster innovation and creativity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in the Elective area or related field.
  • Experience in serving diverse populations.
  • Three or more years of Teaching experience in the Elective area.
