Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Biology Teacher - Science Educator to join our team at the Baltimore City Public School System. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing an instructional program in Science - Biology, providing related educational services for students in grades 6 through 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Planning and Delivery
    • Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
    • Plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate kind and level or materials.
    • Develop, adapt, modify, and individualize educational materials, resources, techniques, methods, and strategies to meet the needs of students within the City Schools curriculum framework.
  • Classroom Management and Student Behavior
    • Assume direct responsibility for the development of appropriate behavior of students within the school setting by establishing and maintaining effective discipline and management procedures.
    • Manage the behavior of learners in instructional settings to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with others professional staff, both school and non-school-based, as required to maximize learning opportunities.
    • Request assistance of and works with resource personnel, as needed.
  • Professional Development and Accountability
    • Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
    • Continually assess student achievement and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in secondary biology education or eligible for a conditional license in biology (biology major or at least 24 credits in biology courses).
  • Valid standard professional educator license appropriate to the subject taught.
  • Knowledge of federal laws protecting the educational services for students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.
