Position Overview:

The Employee Relations Specialist will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, acting as a strategic partner on HR-related matters for the management team while proactively developing solutions for sustained success.
  • Establishes and nurtures a robust partnership with the local management team to oversee Human Resources functions, including but not limited to wage and hour law compliance, policy interpretation and implementation, employee relations, disciplinary coaching, labor relations, and conducting employee and management investigations.
  • Generates analytical reports and develops metrics for management review.
  • Proposes innovative approaches and policies to drive continuous improvements in departmental efficiency and service delivery.
  • Oversees special HR projects as required.
  • Supervision Received: Operates independently under the guidance of the VP of HR and the HR Management team.
  • Supervision Exercised: Independently manages programs and projects in alignment with the HR Team.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Fosters strong relationships with field management and employees to enhance collaboration, boost morale, and improve productivity and retention rates.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of legal obligations related to daily employee management, minimizing legal risks and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborates with Shop Stewards and the management team to uphold adherence to company policies and collective bargaining agreements, addressing inquiries with thoughtful and efficient follow-through.
  • Supports the Employee and Labor Relations function by managing and resolving employee relations challenges and conducting thorough, objective investigations to ensure compliance with company policies and local laws.
  • Ensures timely documentation and follow-up, effectively communicating results to both employees and management.
  • Participates in the coordination of training initiatives for WeDriveUniversity, the company’s training program.
  • Maintains and updates HR policies and procedures, recommending new strategies to enhance departmental efficiency and service quality.
  • Oversees employee engagement initiatives and activities.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Required Skills and Physical Demands:
  • Strong understanding of applicable Human Resources laws and policies at both federal and state levels.
  • Proficient knowledge across various HR disciplines, including talent acquisition, compensation strategies, organizational development, employee and labor relations, training, diversity, and performance management.
  • In-depth knowledge of wage and hour regulations and familiarity with union collective bargaining laws and negotiation techniques.
  • Exceptional communication, project management, presentation, process administration, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to interpret laws, policies, and processes for all employee levels.
  • Deliver results that align with business objectives.
  • Design and deliver training programs tailored to employee needs.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and discreet handling of sensitive information.
  • Proactively identifies issues and formulates solutions.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and HR Systems.
  • This is a hybrid position (Office/Remote) with potential travel requirements of up to 15%.

Education and Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources.
  • Experience with union environments is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • SPHR/PHR or SHRM Certification is a plus.
