POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated culinary professional with exceptional cooking abilities, a compassionate approach, and a strong sense of teamwork. The Culinary Operations Supervisor (COS) will oversee the preparation and management of nutritious and high-quality meals, adhering to our program standards. This role includes training and supervising volunteers, managing procurement, and maintaining daily records. The COS will ensure that all meal production staff and volunteers comply with food safety and warehouse protocols, while also providing support for catering and emergency relief efforts as needed.

This position typically follows a Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday schedule, but may occasionally require evening or weekend hours. It is a hands-on role.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with the Director of Culinary Services and the food team to create healthy, scratch-made cycle menus.

Ensure the daily production of a substantial volume of nutritious, flavorful, and fresh meals in line with program guidelines.

Prepare daily production sheets, order guides, and other necessary administrative documentation for programs.

Maintain a working knowledge of Excel and recipe costing.

Manage inventory levels of food and meals.

Recruit, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the meal production team.

Foster a team culture that aligns with the values and mission of Feeding South Florida.

Oversee the sanitation and upkeep of the kitchen, equipment, and storage areas.

Supervise the training and standards of kitchen volunteers.

Ensure adherence to the highest food safety and sanitation standards at all times.

Promote a positive and engaging workplace atmosphere.

Assist the Director of Culinary Services with daily operations related to food production and kitchen management, including catering and disaster response.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of five years of experience in food manufacturing, high-volume production, handling, storage, and kitchen operations.

Ability to evaluate cooking yields and implement portion control while minimizing waste and adapting recipes for larger batches.

Strong familiarity with standard kitchen equipment, tools, techniques, and safe operational procedures in large-scale food service and distribution.

Proficient in Excel and recipe costing.

Experience in cooking for children and senior programs using CN and PFS labels and menus is preferred, or a willingness to learn.

Dependability and the ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.

Demonstrated management and leadership capabilities, holding the team accountable to key performance indicators.

Ability to plan tasks in advance and communicate the plan effectively.

Awareness of diverse populations with sound judgment and the ability to serve individuals with compassion, patience, and courtesy.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present and teach others.

Strong attention to detail and thorough record-keeping abilities.

A positive attitude, adaptability, and a good sense of humor are essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position operates primarily within a kitchen environment, which includes hot surfaces and moving machinery. Duties may involve extended periods of standing, sitting, bending, lifting, and visual concentration. Occasional work may occur in a warehouse or outdoor settings during inclement weather. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to loud.

TRAVEL

Feeding South Florida serves multiple counties, which may require same-day travel using a personal vehicle, as well as occasional out-of-town travel for meetings, conferences, or events. Flexibility is required as the position may evolve over time.
