Job Overview

Position Summary: The Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Consultant is tasked with performing energy assessments, energy modeling, and green building evaluations for multifamily residential properties. This role is essential for promoting energy efficiency and sustainability practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct analysis of utility consumption data for energy and water performance benchmarking.
  • Implement corporate energy audit protocols and utilize available tools to assess energy and water efficiency initiatives.
  • Generate ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audits to meet various funding prerequisites.
  • Carry out property inspections to gather necessary data for Energy Audits and Green Building Evaluations, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budgetary constraints while maintaining professional communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Create Energy Models for multifamily units and compile reports that highlight energy-saving opportunities, benchmarking results, and compliance with green financing standards.
  • Maintain effective communication with management regarding project-specific challenges and site-related matters.
  • Coordinate travel logistics to facilitate project completion and ensure timely submission of expense reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Reporting Structure: This role does not have any direct reports.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, sustainability, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience and technical training may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Preferred experience includes green building consulting, energy auditing, energy modeling, and project management in construction.
  • Strong writing and computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to critically evaluate data and resolve issues effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions and collaborate with team members.
  • Strong organizational skills, independence in work, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Preferred certifications include RESNET Home Energy Rater (HERS) and various Energy and Green Building credentials such as BPI-MFBA, BPI-HHE, AEE-CEA, AEE-CEM, ASHRAE-BEMP, NGBS Green Verifier, LEED-AP, and EarthCraft Technical Advisor.
  • Experience with energy modeling software (e.g., REM/Rate or Ekotrope) is advantageous, along with knowledge of building diagnostics such as blower door and duct leakage testing.
  • ASHRAE Level I/II energy auditing experience is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.

Work Environment: This position may require occasional travel within the United States, including air travel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel overnight as needed.
  • Capability to climb, balance, kneel, crawl, and lift.
  • Ability to work at heights and on ladders.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of up to 50 pounds without assistance.
